"While we try to teach our children all about life, Our children teach us what life is all about." ~Angela Schwindt

Rob & I often talk about how much Sofie has taught us.  In the 6 1/2 months that she been here, I feel like I've begun this path of becoming someone I want her to look up to and be proud of.  It's crazy how your attitude shifts. she makes me want to be a better person.  Sometimes that includes leaving things in the past once and for all, becoming more picky of who I surround myself with, and to not be so hard on myself. Of course, I know I'm not perfect and have said/done things I'm not proud of.  It is what it is. C'est la vie! Now I consciously make a better effort of being the best version of myself that I can be.  That's all I can do.

Me oh my, where to begin.  This 6 month growth spurt has really shown us how quick our baby is growing up.  Within a week of my last post of Sofie mastering her army crawl, she got on her knees and crawled for realsies! One morning, I finished drinking my protein shake and she heard the jingle of my cup.  Her ears perked up and she just went for it! I sent a video to Rob and called it "something worth crawling for" haha.  She has been all over the place ever since, which has been interesting to try and contain.  It's all tile in the great room except for a rug and her play area, so it's a bit limited. {{play room, hurry up!}}

A week later (early last week), she began to go from a sitting position to crawling and by the end of the week, she could push herself up from a crawling position to sitting up. It's pure craziness!  Haha.  I just can't believe what a quick learner she is.  She has so much fun playing on her back, rolling over, crawling everywhere, sitting up, climbing on things, and doing it all over again.  Such a silly little monkey!  Now she is trying to pull herself up to stand, ay yi yi.  She has face planted and fallen over a few times, but it doesn't seem to phase her.  She is pretty determined to do what she sets her mind to.

We have been quite busy the last few weeks. Had an awesome time celebrating my brother's 30th birfday with a Hawaiian themed carne asada at my parents.
Mexican food with a side of Hawaiian salad, yum!

Happy birfday Tio Army!

And yes, this was Sofie's first time hitting a piñata. She is officially a Mexican, hehe.

Last weekend we went to Rocky Point for the Las Palomas Triathlon with the Trocki's, Stefanie, her bff Elissa, and my dad.  We had such a fun and relaxing time.  Since no one else in the Hegarty family could make it down, we decided to not make Rob swim in the ocean and we all ran a 5k instead.  It was my first time finishing a 5k since Sofie was born, a victory for me! Haha.  My dad was nice enough to play nanny/bartender/grill master/ceviche maker and anything else we asked of him.

Rob's wristbands, boom!

Impromptu double date with Jason & Bre

Filling up gas and stretching our legs; she is so silly!
After a long trip home, we gave Sofie a bath and she decided she needed to be a big girl and sit up. This last week has been a growing week for sure!

To be honest, I wasn't sure how she would do on the road.  I think maybe I automatically assume she will hate being in the car seat that long (because she used to hate it and it was challenging to go anywhere that was farther than 20-30 min)  I hafta remember that she is growing up and out of certain phases. She doesn't like to be in her car seat when it's too quiet and too still (aka when I try to take her to the chiropractor....3x, epic fail).  Super baby does have her kryptonite after all ;) Haha!

So other than that, not much is new.  I'm enjoying being at home and do my best to show my appreciation to Rob by telling him (duh) and keeping up with the household, budget, errands, etc.  It's still a challenge for me to remember to take time for myself and make sure I get out of the house.  Thank goodness Mountainside is 5 minutes away, I've been able to go before the all the other SAHM's (Stay At Home Mamas) flood the gates.  Gotta use having a morning baby to my advantage.  For example, today I went to the gym, hit up Sprouts, made it home to feed Sofie and it was barely 9am! This must be why my bed time is 10pm, haha.

I'm still making Sofie's food for the most part, but have bought some of the pre-made baby food that is easy to take on the go and/or mix with some of the thicker food I've made.  My goal is to feed her 3x per day.  Sometimes it happens, other times...not so much.  Nursing on demand and not diminishing my supply is my #1 priority, so I'm not too worried about it.  I'm also *surprisingly* not pushing any type of schedule.  I let her play and sleep when she wants, and just make sure she eats every 3 hours.  She sleeps through the night, so that's all I can ask for.

Mmk, well my bed time is approaching and I will be updating in less than 2 weeks for her 7 month update (jigga what?!) Where does the time go?  I'll leave y'all (yes, monica will be proud of my use of y'all) with some more pics!

Watching 'toons while mama enjoys her morning coffee.

Monique was sweet enough to edit some more pics, even though she gave birth to her sweet Marley Rose 5 days after she took these pics!

Gosh, I just love our baby girl.

Until next time,

6 months old!

Pretty sure I speak for both Rob & I when I say the last 6 months has been the best everrrr! I really can't believe how fast time flies (I think I say this every month, haha) Your life completely changes (for the better) when you have a baby.  This journey has been challenging at times, but has truly been amazing.  She has taught us so much about ourselves, how we want to live our lives, and so much more.  We feel so very blessed to have her be a part of our little family!
I couldn't get any pics of her just sitting still with her teddy next to her.  She insisted on touching and even chewing on his face! Haha.  Must be those 2 teeth taking their sweet time to cut through, poor little babes.
Hey mom, where'd the teddy go?!

Monthly comparison: whoa mama!

-As mentioned in the last post, she has *pretty much* mastered sitting up.  She is getting really good at turning her head and not wobbling over.  Still has her moments though, hehe.
-She has liked most of what I've given her, with the exception of Peas(yuck!) Avocado (ehh)  and she still isn't crazy about carrots.  I've been mixing those with her vitamin and/or pears.  Yes, we gave her hummus (Pita Jungle is one of our fave spots!)  and she really liked it! Haha
-This little one wants to be on the go!  She can do an army crawl/inchworm move that takes her all over the place. She incorporates her yoga skills with a solid downward dog.  Let's just say, a play room is in the works, haha
Namaste

-She definitely has my awesome soccer legs, they are strong ;).  She loves to stand up and use you as a mountain to "climb" up. We joke that she wants to skip crawling and go straight to running. Haha

Let's just skip to walking, shall we?
-She now has another tooth that has come around, not quite pushed through yet.  Poor thing!
-Rob & I are dorks.  We have the most random nicknames, haha!  I catch myself calling her Bubba/Bubbas a lot and Rob created Momies (pronounced moh-mees) and calls her Babes.
-She said "dada" and was heard by our friends Luke & Suzie last month (we missed it!)  Last week she totally said dada and a few days later said "mama" and pointed to her binky (should I be offended?)  Nothing since then, so who knows!

6 month check up went great.  She had 3 shots and only got upset with the last one (damn you DTap!) She went down in percentile for weight (again). Doc asked me a lot of questions and determined it's because she is burning a lot of calories by being so active and not to worry.  She is hitting all her milestones and that's what is important.  Sofie was showing all her moves (sitting up independently and rolling over) Doc laughed and said, "Oh, are you showing off for me now?"  Hahaha, so funny.  Wonder where she gets that from?!  (my vote is Rob)

I think it's safe to say (knock on wood) that our household is finally free of any sickness.  Sofie ended up being sick for 2 weeks, and luckily it didn't get any worse since I last posted.  Just kinda lingered like my cold did.  Maybe it was a sign for us to take it easy for a change (ha!) It's just been such a busy year so far and we still have lots of fun stuff comin up.
Feeling better after Daddy bought her a new outfit & teddy :)

We had so much fun on Easter weekend.  Celebrated Michelle's birfday, played volleyball, and are some delish food at my parent's house.
Aunt Shay shay & Sofie

Sofie's 1st Easter! She was spoiled rotten.
This last weekend was super busy, but a lot of fun.  Rob & I went on a date night to celebrate paying off his student loan, woo hoo! I know that it has been an ugly cloud lingering over Rob's head and I am so proud of him for meeting his goal.

I remember the day he came home after talking with our friend Jason about it and him telling me that if he committed to paying off our debt, he could possibly pay his student loan off by the end of 2013 (no way jose?!?!) He was gonna sell his truck (his precious, dream truck!) to begin our journey to financial freedom.  To be honest, he had mentioned it before and even put it on craig's list to get a feeler, so I wasn't sure if he was being the spontaneous Rob that we all know and love :D  He listed it for $5k over what was owed, so we could buy an older car with the extra money.  Sure enough, we had a buyer within a day and was willing to pay cash for what we asked. We also found a great deal on the Escape on Craig's list and purchased it the day after we sold the truck.  Everything fell into place seamlessly; it was surely meant to be. I don't remember when we read Dave Ramsey's book "The Total Money Makeover", but I'm glad we did.  I feel so blessed that we can afford to have me home with our precious babes and still live the lifestyle we enjoy.

So yeah, we had an awesome date night.  Finally went to Postino and absolutely loved it! Great atmosphere, delicious food and yummy wine.  We ran into our friend Drew that works there and just sat on the patio bar and had a fun time.
Gonna Photobomb the rest of this post, I worked long and hard for the last hour or so and lost it all. Boo!
A relaxing Saturday morning with my favorite loves.
Book Club fanciness!

Had so much fun at Joan's for book club and much needed time with the ladies!

Sunday Morning we had our photo session with the lovely Monique Hessler. Here is a sneak peek:

After that, we went to the Cuervo's to surprise Jody with a birfday BBQ equipped with a bouncy house boxing ring, water guns, food, and fun!

We *finally* started our Co-Ed Softball league 2 weeks ago and had so much fun.  Everyone was having a blast and not taking it so seriously, which makes me happy.  We won our classification game by 1 point last week, but still made the rookie league (that's good news!)  Last night, we won our first official game. Yay!
Cutest little fan their is!

Papa & Gamber were sweet enough to watch her, which I'm sure was their pleasure.  Grandparents are awesome, aren't they?

Here are some other good memories from the last few weeks:
Play date with Miss London!
Thanks Auntie Mo for the cute outfit!

I think that about sums it up, haha.  Looking forward to celebrating my older brother's big 3-0 bday, Stevie's baby shower, and Rocky Point in the next few weeks. Who says you can't still have fun when you have a kid? Hehe

Until next time,

Baby Mama Lex
